Sustainability Advisor

Masterton District Council would like to hear from those interested in a new part time position with a focus on sustainability both internally within Council and externally within the community.  The role will be responsible for initiating and managing a range of projects, advising on and managing the implementation of initiatives to meet Council’s legal obligations with regard to waste minimisation and the ETS, and attracting funding to support Council’s sustainability programmes.  In carrying out the role, the appointee will develop and maintain good working relationships with Iwi and neighbouring Councils as well as community interest groups. 

The successful candidate will be

  • knowledgeable across a broad range of sustainability issues
  • a very strong relationship manager
  • creative and flexible in solving problems
  • able to get to grips with issues quickly
  • a self-starter

Knowledge of local government obligations and processes would be an advantage but is not essential.

Biodiversity Co-ordinator

Masterton District Council is looking for a self-starter with a genuine interest in biodiversity issues to implement the Biodiversity Strategy.  An empathy with the rural environment and farming lifestyles is essential. 

You will be promoting the protection, enhancement and management of Significant Natural Areas through agreements with landowners and other similar mechanisms, and compiling a non-statutory register of confirmed sites. 

You will have proven skills in project management and a sound understanding of biodiversity principles.  You will be a strategic thinker, take ownership of tasks and enjoy working independently.
