Wards and At-Large Voting

For electoral purposes, Masterton District is divided into two wards and at-large. Once elected ward councillors represent the interests of the district as a whole. The Mayor is elected by all the district’s voters.

The district is divided into two wards that elect a total of 5 Councillors.

The wards and number of elected Councillors for each are:

    Urban Ward - four Councillors

    Rural Ward - one Councillor

    At-Large - five Councillors

The number of Councillors for each ward is determined by the estimated resident population of each ward and the total population of the district as a whole. Legislation requires that the population each Councillor represents is within the range of (plus or minus) 10% of the average population-per-member across the whole city. To find out what ward you are in, see the ward maps.
