Looking for Leaks
As part of long-term asset management
planning, Masterton District Council has engaged “Detection
Services” to undertake water leak detection on the Masterton
town water reticulation.
Utility Services Manager James Li said
Detection Services’
engineers and technicians have this
week begun surveying hydrants, valves and tobies along the water
mains with acoustic listening devices to locate leaks on the
water supply reticulation.
“The leak-finders are looking for cracks
in water mains as well as residential properties, and when found
will report them back to Council staff who will schedule to have
them repaired.
Undetected leaks are, basically, a
financial drain.
“The location of the major leaks will help
the Council to update its water mains maintenance and upgrading
programme in the long term, and save the rate payers a lot of
money on water treatment, and when repaired, also help ease
pressure on water demand during the dry summer period.
