Looking for Outstanding Volunteers -
Civic Awards
Masterton District
Council is looking for our community’s heroes – those who make a
real difference to our place and our people.
“There are many people
in this community who volunteer their time and skills to the
community, says Mayor Garry Daniell.
“Our Council likes to
acknowledge these people with a Civic Award but we need you to
tell us who they are.”
Awards will be considered in such fields as
health and welfare, social and community, elderly services,
youth affairs, education, arts and culture, sports and leisure
and the environment.
In past years Civic Awards have been granted
for such work as co-ordinating flower arrangements at the
hospital over many years, services to music, services to the
foodbank, work on Forest and Bird projects, 50 years services to
Wairarapa hockey and work with Riding for the Disabled.
“It’s very humbling to see people who have
given of their time so generously. Without exception they are
surprised to be nominated and a bit overawed to be selected,” Mr
Daniell said.
“These people make a major contribution to
our community outcomes of vibrant, strong and healthy
communities and an equitable society.”
To be considered for an
award, a person must be nominated by any two officers of any
organisation, association, society or club, or by two members of
the public who are residents of Masterton.
Nominations close on
November 12.
Nomination forms for both awards can be picked up from the
Masterton District Council offices, 64 Chapel Street, or
downloaded from the Council’s website:
