Summer Water Restrictions are now in place
The Council has
introduced water restrictions to make sure there is enough water
for everybody on the Masterton urban and Taueru water supplies.
Residents may now use
water sprinklers on alternate days only: odd-numbered properties
may use their sprinklers on odd calendar days and even numbered
properties on even number calendar days.
With high temperatures
and hot, dry winds over the weekend water usage was high,
requiring use of the booster pump to keep up with demand. On
Sunday our water demand reached 26,882 m3 and we are
limited by the Greater Wellington Regional Council to 28,000 m3
per day.
Council staff are going to be out checking
that people understand the restrictions and anyone found
operating garden sprinklers outside of the rules will be asked
to comply.
The Manager of Assets and Operations, Mr
David Hopman said he encourages residents to co-operate with the
restrictions so that all the community has reasonable access to
the water supply.
“By all means, water the garden. One good
soaking is better than several light sprinkles. Hand-held hoses
direct the water where it needs to go and they can be used at
any time.”
