Double Header Set to Rock n Roll the Bowl
Summer Hummer / Summer Stunner
Masterton’s two annual sizzling summer concerts are lined up
again on consecutive nights next month. Once again some of New
Zealand’s best musical talent will perform, with resurgent
funksters
Supergroove
set to headline the Summer Hummer and
Shane Cortese
and the Class of ’58
ready
to rock’n’roll the Summer Stunner stage.
In a departure for 2009, the Summer Stunner will be held first,
on Monday 9th February. This show has always had a
broad-based appeal and this year one of New Zealand’s top
entertainers, Shane Cortese will bring his high energy
rock’n’roll show to Masterton. The Summer Hummer featuring the
rocking funk and horn-heavy sound of Supergroove, will be on
Tuesday 10th February.
Masterton Mayor Garry Daniell said “The change in the order of
the shows will accommodate Masterton Athletics club night on
the Wednesday and also enabled organisers to secure the headline
acts on dates when they were available.”
For
the many fans of Shane Cortese his appearance in Masterton will
be a huge thrill. His acting credits include playing the
‘baddest bad guy ever’ on Shortland Street and his current role
on the hugely popular Outrageous Fortune. He has played ‘Elvis’
on stage in London and who can forget his performances on
Dancing with the Stars. Event
organiser Frankie Stevens from Avenues Event Management says
“Shane is the consummate performer. He and his band bring to
life the high energy good times from the classic era of rock n
roll.”
The concerts will
again be held at Masterton’s Colin Pugh Sports Bowl. Both
concerts have attracted thousands of people in past years, with
the entry price kept to $5 through support from the Masterton
District Council, Trust House and Masterton Trust Lands Trust.
Both shows will run through the twilight hours of 5pm until
8.30pm. “These shows are a much anticipated part of a very busy
Wairarapa summer event calendar” Mr Daniell said. “We are
thrilled to be able to bring these top acts to Masterton.”
