Solid Waste Engineer Set to Overhaul Recycling Facilities
The appointment of a Masterton District Council Solid Waste
engineer will change the face of rubbish and recycling services
throughout the District.
Clive Margetts, who in his last role updated South Taranaki
District Council’s solid waste strategy from paper to
implementation, says changes to the way we manage rubbish and
recycling ‘are inevitable nationwide’ as a result of the passing
of the Waste Minimisation Act last year.
“My appointment will result in the Masterton District
Council’s Solid Waste Strategy becoming a reality and this will
mean streamlining of recycling services and an overhaul of the
way we handle increasing quantities of solid waste,” Mr Margetts
said.
Central Government adopted the Waste Minimisation Act in
September 2008.
“This Act gives councils some teeth in managing their waste
streams to protect the environment”.
“My goal is to ensure the regulations are applied to all
those involved in producing and managing our waste in a bid to
increase recycling and waste diversion, Mr Margetts said.
As stated in the Long-Term Council Community Plan, physical
works will begin next year to re-vamp the Resource Recovery
Centre – otherwise known as the Nursery Road recycling depot to
‘increase our waste minimisation and recycling options’.
Mr Margett’s background in solid waste management spans 10
years and includes three years as solid waste service provider
to the South Taranaki District Council.
