Street Tree Advisory Group
Do you have an interest and knowledge of trees in the urban
environment, particularly in the streetscapes of Masterton?
Are you interested in being involved in preservation and
enhancement of the town’s street trees for current and future
Masterton District Council is looking for committee members
to join our Street Tree Advisory Group.
We are looking for people who can contribute with a sound
knowledge of trees and their place in the streetscape, and be
committed to attending two scheduled meetings per year.
The role of the Street Tree Advisory Group includes:
(a) Approving proposed planting works recommended by
officers, ensuring decisions are consistent with the Street Tree
(b) Considering complaints and recommendations from the
community relating to street trees.
(c) Mediation on street tree related disputes with affected
neighbouring property owners.
(d) The approval of the use of tree species that are not already
included on the approved species list within the policy.
(e) Monitoring the effectiveness of the street tree policy and
recommend changes to Council as required.
(f) Approval of planting/renewal strategies for three-year
period developed by council officers.
(g) Information sharing and education as to the importance of
street trees through development of a brochure and information
the Masterton District Council website.
