Masterton Young Achievers' Awards
Do you know a young person who has excelled in their
field?
Each year the Masterton District Council recognises
young people who are high achievers in their field. This normally
involves recognition outside the Wairarapa.
The contribution might be
in any of the following areas:

health and welfare
-
education
-
sports and leisure
-
social and community
-
youth affairs
-
arts and culture
-
environment
If you want to nominate someone up to 25 years of age
please contact the Masterton District Council (phone 370 6300) or
Masterton District Library for a form, or you can download the form
below. Your nomination should include supporting material and local,
regional and national achievements of your nominee.

SPARC Rural Travel Fund For Junior Sports
We’ve got some money left! Masterton District Council is looking for
more applications to the Rural Travel Fund.
Sports Clubs and schools are invited to apply for grants to subsidise
travel costs to enable their junior teams aged 5-19 years to participate
in local sport competitions. Funding is not available for regional or
national events or sports competitions undertaken in school time.
Any sports club or school in the Masterton District may apply. The
Council is particularly interested in summer codes.
Application forms may be obtained from the Masterton District Council
or from Sport Wairarapa.

Ucol Scholarship
The Council no longer funds a UCOL study scholarship.
The Murray King Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was
established in 1998, as a memorial to the late Murray King, who was a
pioneer in the development of soil conservation and sustainable land
management programmes in the Wairarapa.
The scholarship is worth up
to $2,000 and will be awarded annually either as one scholarship or
divided into several.
It will be awarded to
Wairarapa students attending university to obtain degree qualifications,
with particular emphasis on sustainable land management, indigenous forest
management and soil conservation.
Students who have completed
part or all of their secondary education in the Wairarapa, or who live in
the Wairarapa at the time of applying for the scholarship are eligible.

Murray King Memorial Scholarship Information
The Peter Laing Memorial Trust Grants 2010
The grant was established in 2005, as a
memorial to the late Peter Laing, who was a farming and community leader
in the Wairarapa.
The grant is awarded annually either as
one grant or divided into several.
The grants are designed to assist
people within the agricultural industry or those entering the industry to
acquire practical agricultural skills training.
Criteria for the grants:
- Resident within the Wairarapa
region or strong links with the Wairarapa.
- Focus on pastoral
farming.
- Strong desire to extend knowledge
and interest in agriculture.
- A realistic commitment to work in
the industry.
