Election 2010 - Overview
The next local body election will be held on Saturday 9 October 2010. This
election will be conducted by postal vote and is your chance to elect the
members to represent you on the Masterton District Council and other local body
organisations in the district.
Local body elections are held throughout the country every three years. The
elections are held under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the
Local Electoral Regulations 2001 and the Local Government Act 2002.
Positions up for Election
Elections will be held for the following positions:
Mayor (1)
Councillors (10)
Urban Ward (4 councillors)
Rural Ward (1 councillor)
At Large (5 councillors)
Elections will also be held for the following organisations:
Greater Wellington Regional Council (1 member)
Masterton Trust Lands Trust (4 members)
Masterton Licensing Trust (6 members)
Montfort Trimble Foundation (2 members)
Wairarapa District Health Board (members elected from across the Wairarapa)
Information of interest to voters and candidates will be placed on this site as
it becomes available.
Nominations will open on 23 July and close at noon on 20 August 2010.
Candidates must pay a deposit of $200 which may be refundable if sufficient
votes are recorded for the candidate and after the expense returns are
submitted. Candidates must return an account of their election expenses
incurred from 9 July.
Voting papers will be distributed from 17 to 21 September and voting will
close at noon on 9 October.
