Overhanging Trees

You will know there is nothing more disconcerting, when walking along a footpath than a slap in the face from a branch full of wet foliage.  Trees or shrubs are not permitted to encroach over the boundary into public space.  They must be cut back to keep the area clear as shown on the diagram.

When trimming or cutting back please make allowance for the effect of wind and rain which, separately or together can greatly aggravate the problem.

For safety purposes, if you have trees with branches near power lines you should contact Powerco on 0800-769-372 or www.powerco.co.nz for a list of qualified experienced contractors to carry out the work.

If you wish to report trees or shrubs overhanging onto the footpath please contact the Masterton District Council call centre on (06) 370 6300, or email mdc@mstn.govt.nz or fill in an e-Fix form by clicking on e-Fix near the top right hand side of this page.
