Masterton District Council is excited about plans to build a
cycleway from the Masterton Netball Courts on Colombo Road to Kuripuni.
Cycling
is a great way to get around, good exercise and fun - and it is good for the environment
and the wellbeing of people in our community. Cycleways are designed to provide
safe connecting routes between locations for people wanting to use alternatives
to cars.
We want to make Masterton a town where getting on a bike is an
attractive way to move around and do all those everyday tasks like doing the
shopping, and getting to work and school.
The cycleway would be paid for by
Waka Kotahi as part of its Transport Choices programme and fits in with the
Government’s goal of providing more affordable low-emissions transport choices
for everyone to get where they are going.
The proposed cycleway route would
provide a safe, appealing cycleway linking schools, recreational trails, sports
venues, and businesses on the eastern side of Masterton.
Consultation for the cycleway closed at 4pm Monday 19th June. We will be reviewing all feedback over the coming weeks. We will provide project updates on this webpage as this progresses.
