Retailer Safety
The Times-Age followed up last night’s meeting with retailers and other interested parties to discuss concerns about safety and security. The following comment was provided from Mayor Gary Caffell:
“The Council’s aim in organising this meeting was to bring retailers, agencies and interested parties together to understand how they are feeling, build links and ensure good communication going forward.
“It was a very positive and constructive meeting, with excellent input from retailers and the Police, as well as other groups, and I look forward to the Council continuing to be involved in facilitating those linkages.
“I like to think that by having a meeting of this kind we are sending out a message to our business community that we have their back, that we understand the very real worries and concerns they have, and that if we can do anything at all to help, we will.”
Key initiatives discussed included:
- Re-starting a retailers group that would include Police, Council and community representatives, meeting on a regular basis,
- Police further developing relationships with key agencies and retailers,
- Ensuring all parties maintain good communication around emerging issues.
