National Party Announces Funding For Pothole Repair
For the Record
The Post newspaper asked for comment/information in relation to the National Party’s announcement about funding for roading work.
The maintenance of our roading network, particularly rural roads susceptible to the impact of extreme weather events, is an ongoing source of pressure on funding as it is for all district councils.
Currently, councils set their own roading programme and bid for a central government share of funding. Any central government funding for roading work must be matched by a local contribution.
MDC currently budgets approximately $1 million a year on pavement maintenance which includes making potholes safe and fixing road pavement faults. Potholes are made safe within 48 hours of the Council being made aware of them
