There was an outpouring of emotion and gratitude as members of the community joined Masterton Mayor Bex Johnson to honour Elaine Leggott with a special one-off Mayoral Civic Acknowledgement.
The acknowledgement followed letters to the Mayor from members of the community highlighting Elaine's incredible contributions and the countless hours she has dedicated to supporting people in need and helping those facing times of crisis.
Masterton Mayor Bex Johnson said it was an absolute honour to present Elaine with the special acknowledgement in recognition of her outstanding service to the community.
"During times of crisis, when someone is in need, knowing there is someone there to help can be literally life-saving. It can be the difference between coping and not coping, and the difference between feeling alone and knowing someone cares.
"Elaine has dedicated so much of her time to supporting others, and I was honoured to be able to recognise the profound impact she has had on our community," said Mayor Johnson.
Elaine Leggott has been a driving force in raising funds for people experiencing hardship and crisis, while also connecting individuals and families with the services and support they need. Through her fundraising efforts and her role as administrator of the Doing a Good Deed Facebook page, Elaine has positively impacted thousands of lives across Masterton.
“Elaine is a shining example of the remarkable people we have here in Masterton who help make this community what it is today.
"I want to thank Elaine once again for her commitment to helping others, and for her kindness, compassion, and dedication to our community," concluded Mayor Johnson.
While her nomination highlighted the significant impact of her work, much of what Elaine does takes place quietly behind the scenes. She was also quick to acknowledge the team that supports her and share this recognition with them. This special acknowledgement celebrates the extraordinary difference Elaine has made in the lives of others and the wider community.
