The Building Act 2004 provides for the regulation of building work, the establishment of a licensing regime for building practitioners, and the setting of performance standards, to ensure that:
- people who use buildings can do so safely and without endangering their health
- buildings have attributes which contribute appropriately to the health, physical independence, and well-being of the people who use them
- people who use a building can escape from the building if it is on fire and
- buildings are designed, constructed, and able to be used in ways which promote sustainable development.

Masterton’s Regulatory Team has had another busy year and would like to thank you all for your support and wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
Resource Consents and Building Consents
Resource Consent and Building Consent applications lodged prior to 23rd November 2023 will have the best chance of being granted and issued prior to the Christmas holiday.
The Planning Team will not be processing any Resource Consent Applications between 20th December 2023 and 10th January 2024 as this a statutory close down period outlined in the RMA.
The Masterton Regulatory Departments will be closed from midday Friday 22nd December 2023 and re-open Monday 8th January 2024 at 09.00am.
The last building inspection timeslot for 2023 will be 3pm on 21st December 2023 and the first in the New Year will be 10am on 8th January 2024.
The last day for submitting an application for a non-urgent LIM Report is 8th December 2023 and the last day for submitting an application for an urgent LIM Report is 15th December 2023. The first day in the New Year for LIM applications is Monday 8th January 2023
