Let us know what you think of our recreational and sports facilities
Masterton District Council is kicking off community engagement about at how sport and recreation facilities are being used, and what the community would like to see in the future.
With consultation on the next Long-Term Plan opening next year, and potential changes to local government on the horizon, MDC wants to ensure it is focusing its efforts and investment where they will have the most impact.
Group Manager Strategy Karen Yates said it was the perfect time to get community input into the district's sport and recreation facilities.
"Whether you're hitting the field, taking a dip, or using a playground - a competitive athlete, enjoy a social game with your mates, or simply love getting outside and enjoying nature - we want to make sure our facilities meet the needs of Masterton today and into the future,” she said.
"Through many of the conversations we had as part of developing Our Future, Our Story - Masterton's vision to 2050 - community facilities came through as a really important feature of what makes our district a great place to live, so we want to hear what people think," she said.
Feedback gathered through the process will help the Council understand what is currently working well, what isn't working so well, and what sport and recreation facilities could be needed in the future.
"Masterton is growing, and we want to make sure we're investing in the right types of facilities and activities that reflect what our community wants to see. The only way we can do that is by hearing directly from the people who use them."
The survey opens on today (14 October) and runs for three weeks, closing on 4 November.
You can have your say through the What’s Up, Wakaoriori? page, or by completing a hard-copy survey, available later this week from the Masterton District Council Customer Service Centre at 161 Queen Street, or the Masterton District Library at 45 Chapel Street.
"If you don't tell us, we simply don't know. So, whether you take part in sport yourself, have family members involved, enjoy our recreation spaces, or are thinking about getting more active in the future, I'd really encourage you to share your thoughts with us," Karen said.
