New contract confirmed for Wairarapa waste management service
The three Wairarapa district councils have confirmed that Low Cost Bins has been awarded the Wairarapa Waste Management and Minimisation Contract and will commence services from 1 July 2027.
Council contracts are periodically renewed to ensure services continue to meet the expectations and requirements of the councils, while also allowing alternative service options to be explored.
With additional government requirements around waste management, coupled with it being around 10 years since the contract was issued, it was timely that the contract be open for tender.
Council group managers say that while the service will be delivered by a new company, the collection system remains unchanged.
“Ensuring the best value for money for ratepayers is at the heart of all contract negotiations, and it's important that we explore all options. From 1 July next year, people can continue to expect the same level of service that is currently provided, and they can put their bags and bins out as they usually do.”
Services at transfer stations and recycling stations will also continue as they currently operate, with the facilities managed by the new supplier.
Council group managers congratulate Low Cost Bins on their successful appointment and say they look forward to working together with Low Cost Bins to deliver reliable, efficient and high-quality services for our communities.
"We would also like to acknowledge and thank Earthcare Environmental for their contribution and service over the last 16 years. We appreciate their work in providing these important services to our communities."
