Join the Destination Wairarapa Board – External Appointee
Masterton District Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from community members to join the Destination Wairarapa Board as the Masterton District Council appointee.
Destination Wairarapa is the official Regional Tourism Organisation for Wairarapa. Its mission is to promote the region as a visitor destination, support tourism operators, and contribute to local economic development.
As a Board member, you will help guide the organisation’s strategic direction, ensure strong governance, and champion initiatives that grow tourism and strengthen our regional economy. You will also have the opportunity to engage with the elected members to understand Council’s priorities for tourism in Masterton and the wider Wairarapa region.
What we’re looking for
- Governance experience and understanding of board responsibilities.
- Strategic and commercial acumen, including financial literacy.
- Knowledge of tourism, economic development, or regional growth strategies.
- Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and represent community interests.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and, where relevant, tikanga Māori.
The position will be remunerated in line with the Council’s Appointments and Remuneration Policy.
Commitment
The role involves:
- attending regular Board meetings (typically bi-monthly),
- preparation time for reviewing reports and strategic documents,
- attending key industry events, stakeholder meetings, and promoting Wairarapa tourism.
The typical time commitment for this position is 4-8 hours per month, although this may vary depending on events etc.
The role would be appointed for the Council triennium, subject to the Council’s contractual arrangements with Destination Wairarapa.
