Warinings for strong winds and heavy rain
Weather Warning
The Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) is warning of deteriorating weather through the weekend with the worst expected tomorrow (Sunday 27 September). There are warnings in place for Wairarapa as follows:
1. Heavy Rain Warning Orange- Tararua Ranges – 10 hours from 4am Sunday, 60 to 90 mm, with peak rate Sunday morning 15/20mm/h
Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flood, slips and difficult driving conditions
Action: Clear drains and gutters. Avoid low lying areas an drive cautiously.
2. Strong Wind Warning – Orange – Wairarapa
8 hours from 7am Sunday, severe gale west to northwest winds gusting 120 km/h in exposed places. Winds easing from the south Sunday afternoon.
Impact: Damage to trees, powerlines, and unsecured structures possible. Driving may be difficult, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
Action: Prepare your property by securing items that can be picked up by strong winds. Drive cautiously.
