Disability Advisory Group - Expressions of Interest

Applications are now closed.

The DAG gives advice, information and recommendations on disability inclusion and accessibility. The advice helps Council understand the needs of disabled people when they’re making choices about the future. The group can have up to twelve members including six community members, two elected members, and up to four iwi representatives.

Can I apply?

We want lots of different people to join the group and share their unique experiences. If we can make it easier to take part in the group by providing technology, alternate formats, interpreters, or other accommodations – let us know.

To apply for the group you should:

  • Identify as disabled or know about disability issues,
  • be interested in advocacy or speaking up for disabled people,
  • live in the Masterton District or have a strong connection to the District.

A selection panel will read all of the applications and choose six community members for the group.

If you are already a member of the group, you can reapply for another term. A term is three years. You can only do two terms on the group.

What would I have to do?

As a member of the group you will:

  • Go to at least four meetings per year – online or in-person (2-4 hours each)
  • Read reports and information before meetings
  • Reply to emails from Council staff about things that happen between meetings

Meeting times will be decided after the group is chosen.

Group members are paid $150 per meeting. You will need to fill out an IR330C form.

How do I apply?

If you want to join the group you should:

  • fill out the application form and
  • return it to Council before Friday 27 February 2026.
  • you can pick up a hard copy from the Masterton District Library 45 Chapel Street, Waiata House 27 Lincoln Road, or the Customer Service Centre 161 Queen Street.

You can return it by:

  • Emailing it to kelsir@mstn.govt.nz
  • Posting it to MDC, PO Box 444, Masterton, 5840 or
  • Bringing it to the Customer Service Centre at 161 Queen Street, Masterton.

You can record your answers in a video or a voice note or come in and answer them in person if you prefer.

What happens next?

Applications close on Friday 27 February, after that:

  1. The panel will meet and choose the group members.
  2. We will contact everyone who applied and tell them if they’re in the group or not.
  3. If you are in the group we will,
  • ask if you have any access or support needs,
  • ask if there’s anything else we should know.

4. The final group will be approved by Council at their meeting on Wednesday 25 March.
